Position Summary:  

 

Join Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) as the Director of Critical Care Nursing and lead in a fast-paced and clinically challenging environment. LHMC is a level I Trauma Center, DNV GL – certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, caring for patients who have undergone CABG, TAVR, kidney and liver transplants, interventional neuroradiology procedures and more.  Our critical care patients are highly acute and cared for by a great team of specialty-trained caregivers delivering interventions such as ventilator support, vasoactive drips, ECMO, Impella, and CVVH.  If all of this excites you and you are an experienced leader with three or more years of demonstrated success leading other nursing leaders in critical care, setting strategic priorities and goals collaboratively with key stakeholders, we’d like to hear from you! 

 

As the Director of Critical Care Nursing you will report to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer, (ACNO) of Inpatient Nursing Services and be responsible for the organizing, planning/developing, directing, and evaluating critical care nursing practices in provision of direct nursing care for the Critical Care Departments as well as other designated areas of responsibility at LHMC.  This position requires working through Nurse Manager direct reports, provides administrative, operational and financial oversight and direction to critical care departments.  In doing so, you will establish patient care objectives and organizational structure for achieving established objectives.  The Director of Critical Care Nursing is a key member of the LHMC Nursing Leadership team and Nurse Executive team, fostering nursing excellence through the development of a professional nursing practice environment as outlined in the ANA Scope and Standard for Nurse Administrators, the MA Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics.

 

In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Associate Chief Nursing Officers (ACNO), the Director of Critical Care Nursing will work through the Nursing Shared Governance Structure and other committees to direct the formulation, implementation and evaluation of nursing services.  Through the assigned nurse managers, you will direct and be responsible for the following:

LHMC has four Critical Care Departments:

  • Surgical Intensive Care Unit-24 beds

  • Intensive Care Unit/Cardiology Care Unit-16 beds

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit-12 Beds

  • New Neurosciences Critical Care & Progressive Care Unit -18 beds

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Requires knowledge of nursing practices, theories, management and research, basic statistics, and healthcare legislation as normally acquired through completion of a master’s degree in nursing administration or closely related field in order to have full understanding of Nursing Services functions required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

  • A high level of interpersonal skills are necessary in order to provide effective leadership to nursing managers and staff and to effectively communicate with a wide variety of Lahey Clinic staff and outside agencies.

  • A high level of analytical skills are necessary in order to develop and implement new nursing systems, techniques and procedures; determine needs for capital equipment, staff, expense and revenue budgets; and prepare special and recurring reports or analyses.

Experience:  Approximately five years of progressively more responsible related work experience which includes supervisory and managerial experience, in order to effectively direct and manage activities of the nursing practice.
